They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption, since people are enslaved to whatever defeats them. - 2 Peter 2:19

At one time, I lived in Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire). This country (and much of southern West Africa)  was also once known as the "Gold Coast" and, unfortunately, the "Slave Coast." In a very ugly past, people were treated like property and trafficked through castles that dotted the coastline. And while white colonialists did not invent slavery, like many, they certainly profited from it and the tribal warfare that fed it.

No doubt, human slavery was, and still is, a wicked, horrible practice. Yet, in a spiritual sense, are we not all "slaves" to those things that control us? Work, drugs, pleasure, sexual perversion, materialism, any or all of these may become our master, any or all may of rob us of our freedom, health, life, and fruitfulness.

Jesus is the Great Liberator and in Him a person can be free indeed! So, let us work together to eliminate slavery for it destroys humanity and the human soul, and in every form, it must be abolished.

Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally. - Abraham Lincoln
