When Rehoboam had established his sovereignty and royal power, he abandoned the law of Yahweh ... he and all Israel with him. - 2 Chronicles 12:1

Rehoboam was the foolish son of a foolish father (Solomon). When he sensed that he needed God's protection, King Rehoboam was a picture of obedience; yet once his power base had been established, obedience to God was abandoned.
How often do we rely upon God in a crisis, yet abandon Him when all is well?
Financial strength, physical health, or even peace can be an enemy of God's presence if we are not diligent in cultivating a daily walk with the Savior. History proves that the trials and tribulations of life seem most effective in driving us to seek God's presence. While this may certainly be true, we must also work continuously to develop spiritual "habits" that maintain our intimacy with the Lord when all is well.
In other words, let us learn to seek Him even when the need is not so urgent.
The call is to know our great God and Father, to understand His intentions, and by His grace, wisdom, and strength to walk in good ways. - Lucas
