But if the slave declares: "I love my master, my wife, and my children; I do not want to leave as a free man," his master is to bring him to the judges and then bring him to the door or doorpost. His master must pierce his ear with an awl, and he will serve his master for life. - Exodus 21:5-6

When we usually speak of slavery, it is with a negative connotation, and considering our American history, it should be addressed in this light. However, when we are speaking of our life in Christ, slavery is not an evil concept.

I am a slave to Christ Jesus.

I was a slave to my sin, but Christ purchased me (with His own blood). He bought my past (and redeemed it), my present (and empowered it), and my future (and secured it). He changed my desires and is daily giving me new ones. While He did not pierce my ear, He did pierce my heart and now I want to be His property forever.

Slavery to Christ is neither evil nor undesirable. It is, in fact, the only way for a person to be truly free.

Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves. - Abraham Lincoln
