God is Great

But who is able to build a temple for Him, since even heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain Him? Who am I then that I should build a temple for Him except as a place to burn incense before Him? - 2 Chronicles 2:6

One of the funniest scenes (at least for me) in the "Avengers" movie was when the primary antagonist (Loki) faced off with the Hulk (aka, Bruce Banner) demanding that he be worshiped as a "god" due to his own invincibility and greatness. The Hulk responded to this claim by thrashing the guy around like a limp dish rag but here is the funny part. As he left the scene, the Hulk looked at Loki (lying there in a crumpled heap) and pronounced, "Puny god." So true. All "man-made gods" are puny.

My God, on the other hand, is decidedly not! Is yours?

Solomon seemed to be aware of God's greatness at the beginning of his reign, but later on he seemed to forget it. Is it possible for us to fall into the same trap? God has never been, nor will He ever be contained by or confined to our programs, efforts, agencies, or structures. Even our advanced intellectual enterprises are dwarfed by His omniscience, yet over time we might begin to believe more in our own ability than His, and in doing so set ourselves up for a Divine reality check.

The Lord of heaven and earth, GOD Almighty is not puny, He is great, so maybe we better stop strutting and start bowing.
