Keep the Fire Burning

Fire shall be kept burning continually on the altar; it is not to go out. - Leviticus 6:13

The Levitical law that God gave to Moses on Sinai is in many ways complex and difficult to fully understand within our current cultural context. Some instructions seem to promote practices that will aid in physical health while others seem to encourage the formulation of a just society. Still others speak clearly to orderly acts of spiritual worship offered to a thrice-holy God.
For example, above we see the priests being commanded to always keep the fire burning on the altar of sacrifice. Day or night it should have been possible for an Israelite to come and do what was necessary to maintain a right relationship with the Almighty.
In the same way, we who follow Christ must keep aflame our fellowship with the Father by maintaining a sacrificial spirit. As God desires and commands, we must willingly and consistently put "self" to death for His greater glory.
May we always be ready to be "burned up" for Him.
You never have to advertise a fire. - Leonard Ravenhill
