Israel worshipped YHWH throughout Joshua's lifetime and during the lifetimes of the elders who outlived Joshua, and who had experienced all the works YHWH had done for Israel. - Joshua 24:31

Why is it that every succeeding generation seems to repeat the mistakes of the preceding generation?

Often in biblical history, as long as a faithful leader and his contemporaries remained alive the people remained faithful; however, when that leader and his generation died, then the people began to abandon the Lord, which raises the question, "Who truly failed?" Was it the generation who sinned or the generation who failed to leave a legacy of faith?

We cannot live upon the faith of our predecessors. For one's faith to be real, it must obviously be personal. At the same time, we cannot neglect our God-given opportunity to portray true faith to the next generation. It should be shared. How? By helping them learn how to live by faith before we leave for our heavenly home.

History is a guide to navigation in perilous times. History is who we are and why we are the way we are. - David McCullough
