So the women were terrified and bowed down to the ground. "Why are you looking for the living among the dead?" asked the men. - Luke 24:5

ree

Blinded by their grief, three faithful female followers of Jesus showed up at His tomb on the morning of that glorious "third day," only to discover that their Savior was not there. We might have expected the celestial beings that greeted them to offer some sort of comfort or consideration (given their obvious surprise), but instead the angels asked a simple, profound, soul-searching, convicting question that somehow transformed the ladies' grief/confusion/fear into awareness and amazed wonder. They asked, "Why are you looking for the living among the dead?"

The angelic question still makes an important point, doesn't it? How many people invest their very lives in the accumulation of dead, lifeless works expecting to somehow find life in them? The only death that has ever resulted in life was, in fact, Christ's, but like those first visitors to the empty tomb, to find life, we have to look to Him alone.

If someone's life seems empty and incomplete it is simply because they are seeking it in the wrong places.

Man's life is of God, not of his goods, however abundant they may be. - Henry Alford
