For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge.... - 2 Peter 1:5

James wrote that faith without works is dead. Martin Luther, with his strong opposition to a sacramentalist religion locked in dead works, felt that James letter was useless and should have been left out of the biblical canon. It makes me wonder if Luther ever read Second Peter.
Peter wrote, "... make every effort...." There is no such "biblical" thing as a "non-working" faith. The faith that succeeds is indeed a working faith. Works cannot earn salvation, neither can they replace it, but they certainly affirm it.
This life is a trip and like any journey it requires careful attention and daily (dare I say "minute-by-minute") effort to remain on course. Always make the effort.
He that is without faith is without works; and he that is without works is without faith. - Charles Spurgeon
