No Middle Ground

"And now, I tell you, stay away from these men and leave them alone. For if this plan or this work is of men, it will be overthrown; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even be found fighting against God." So they were persuaded by him. - Acts 5:38-39

Gamaliel, Saul's teacher and the renowned teacher of Israel, like all of the Jewish religious leadership, had a problem. The apostles refused to stop talking about Jesus!

His response to the "Christian" problem was to stand back, leave well enough alone, and see what happened next. He deduced that this was the best way to determine whether or not "the Way" was actually from God or just the act of rebellious men. Of course, no one listened (including Gamaliel's own disciple, Saul), persecution eventually followed, and the result was expansive church growth, not eradication.

Like those early disciples, compelled by Christ's resurrection, we must not be silent. Unlike Gamaliel, waiting in the wings is not our option. We join in the "fight" with Christ, or we certainly fight against Him. We cannot play "wait and see." His divinity demands a decision; His lead, a follow; His life, your life.

There can be no middle ground.
