Rub a Little Truth In It

... proclaim the message, persist in it whether convenient or not. - 2 Timothy 4:2

ree

Paul, in his last letter to Timothy (his son in the faith), gave as much encouragement as he could to the young leader. While serving the Lord may not be the most difficult work in the world, it has its moments and Paul must have known that Timothy would have some of his own. Yet, in spite of the difficulties he was facing and would face in the future, Paul wanted Timothy to know that these difficulties were not an excuse for dereliction of duty.

I remember when I played football as a kid and had a non-serious injury, the coach would often say something like, "Rub a little dirt on it and get back in there!" Well, the bumps and bruises of ministry will come and often the only way forward is to rub some "down to earth truth" in the wound and get back in there.

When ministry is unpleasant, the only choice the "called" have is to persist and endure, whether convenient or not.

If through a broken heart God can bring His purposes to pass in the world, then thank Him for breaking your heart. - Oswald Chambers
