Dear friends, this is now the second letter I've written you; in both, I awaken your pure understanding with a reminder.... - 2 Peter 3:1

I have tinnitus. It is a persistent hissing sound in my ears that I have heard comes with advancing years, for some. It is annoying, but I don't always notice it. I also have significant hearing loss in both ears and now wear hearing aids. Before I got them, I would have trouble picking up a single conversation and would often find myself having to ask others to repeat themselves.
Did you know that it is also possible to have "spiritual tinnitus?" The "noise" of this world can make it difficult for us to hear God's truth; particularly, if we do not focus on His voice. One of the reasons that Peter wrote his second letter was that his readers needed another reminder. Their attention to God's truth had been drowned out by the clutter of false truths and an unbiblical worldview.
Ladies and gentlemen (boys and girls), take heed. It is a sign of disobedience and spiritual deafness if we must ask God to repeat Himself.
The word 'listen' contains the same letters as the word "silent." - Alfred Brendel
