Stalling is Rebellion

But Balaam responded to the servants of Balak, "If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go against the command of the LORD my God to do [anything] small or great. Please stay here overnight as the others did, so that I may find out what else the LORD has to tell me." - Numbers 22:18-19

Have you ever asked God for something and received an answer that you didn't like?

Of course, you have! Sometimes God's leadership and the path He chooses for us are not what we expect or desire and it is completely natural at times like these to look for ways around His "answers," to seek alternative routes that are more agreeable.

God clearly told Balaam not to help Balak and the Moabites with their plan to destroy the Israelites. At first, Balaam told the king's messengers that he would not be able to provide any assistance, but then he gave himself more time by asking them to stick around, apparently hoping that God might change His mind. Yet, the consistent compromises and stalling tactics of Balaam led to his eventual destruction.

The best response to a command of God is immediate, unequivocal, uncompromising obedience. To respond in any other way will only lead to disaster. Be honest with yourself, stalling is simple rebellion.
