Stinking Good

For to God we are the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To some we are an aroma of death leading to death, but to others, an aroma of life leading to life. And who is competent for this? – 2 Corinthians 2:15-16

I am not a fan of boiled cabbage. I struggle to tolerate the stench. I'm not even sure why I dislike it so much. There aren't any traumatic childhood experiences that may have scarred my olfactory and psychic health. The aroma just turns my stomach. Of course, some folks love it. Go figure.

The lives of good, honest Christ-followers are to some a "fragrant aroma." As the very "fragrance of Christ," their lives are pleasing; however, these same people (and their actions) can be a powerful, offensive odor to those who do not know our Savior.

Christ is an offense to many, and we should never be surprised that as we draw nearer to Him (and the more we are transformed into His likeness), the more powerful our own aroma will be. For some, this will be an attraction. They will be drawn to the message we bear. Yet, there will also be those who are offended and find everything we stand for to be a foul odor.

May we continue to immerse ourselves in Christ, bearing more and more His fragrance. Sure, some may find it offensive, but to many we will be "stinking good."

God can use you to help win the lost. – Warren Wiersbe
