The Israelites set out whenever the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle throughout all the stages of their journey. - Exodus 40:36

As Israel entered into a more personal, dependent relationship with God, He taught them some valuable lessons about submission. Throughout their wilderness wanderings, God purposely directed Israel and they only moved when and where He led. Christ-followers should understand that God is likewise directing the significant moves of their lives, and more.
God's sovereign direction also affects daily life, or at least, it should.
We Americans live in a culture that demands a busy lifestyle. While busy-ness is not bad, it can distract us from God-directed rest. As Israel experienced the ebb and flow of life in their desert travels, we must learn to accept the ebb and flow of life as God ordains it. Take some time to stop and ponder where you have been, the truths you have grasped, how God has blessed, and where God is leading you next.
Sabbath is the God-ordained discipline of setting aside one day out of seven for the sake of refreshing worship of the Lord, joyful community with His people, and rest-filled activity that is different from what we do on the other days of the week. - Kevin Harney
