Your Best Investment

The land is not to be permanently sold because it is Mine, and you are only foreigners and temporary residents on My land. - Leviticus 25:23

If you asked someone, "Where is the best place to put your money?," most would answer, "Land." Generally speaking, the price of land never goes down and, therefore, it is a good investment, but is it the best? God told the Israelites that all land (particularly, all the Promised Land) was His and that they should live as foreigners and temporary residents on it. Why would He say this if real estate was such a great place to put your wealth?

If a person lives 100 years on this earth and dies, he leaves everything to someone else, including the land on which all his "stuff" sits. We pass through this world, but we do not remain here. We live for eternity, not for today. While investing your earthly possessions in something as "solid" as land makes temporal sense, investing in eternity requires a different approach.

In light of this truth, which is the best investment you can make with your life? What is the best investment for all that you have to give? Why would you pass on building God's eternal Kingdom in order to grow an earthly empire that simply cannot last?

The awful importance of this life is that it determines eternity. - William Barclay
