First, be aware of this: scoffers will come in the last days to scoff, following their own lusts.... - 2 Peter 3:3

"Beep, Beep" ... no, it isn't the cartoon road runner. It is a West African taxi.
In one city of now weel over six million (in West Africa, where we lived), we were blessed to have ample, reliable public transportation; however, each of these public transports was equipped with a horn and a driver who felt it was necessary to use that horn incessantly. They "beep, beeped" at everything.
As soon as the light would turn green, they would beep. In a traffic jam with no place to go, they would beep. They would even beep to let the white folks (that is us) know they had an empty taxi. An unfortunate consequence of all this beeping was that my ears soon began to tune it out. It became background noise and I soon ceased to heed its warning. Like the boy who cried "wolf" (when there was no wolf), his entire village didn't listen when true danger arrived.
Let us not be guilty of the same when it comes to God's Word. Each warning given by inspiration of God is meant to be heeded (such as the one above) and we should give each our full attention. Whether it is the consequences of sin, the hardening of the heart to the gospel, or (as above) the danger of increased deception in the last days, we who follow Christ must remain alert.
How is it possible to expect mankind to take advice when they will not so much as take warning? - Jonathan Swift
