These are springs without water and mists driven by a storm, for whom the black darkness has been reserved. For speaking out arrogant words of vanity they entice by fleshly desires, by sensuality, those who barely escape from the ones who live in error, promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved. - 2 Peter 2:17-19

"... for by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved."
There is a phrase that is repeated seven times in the seven letters to the seven churches in the text of Christ's revelation to John, the Apostle. This phrase is, "... to him who overcomes...."
Christ-following is all about overcoming. Each day of the Christian life is filled with opportunity to either overcome something (a trial, temptation, or other challenge) or be overcome by the same. The freedom that is the privileged possession of the redeemed is evidenced by the continual victories won in these momentary battles of life.
Disciples are overcomers. We are not free of temptation, trial, conflict, suffering, persecution, or pain but we endure such because we belong to the Savior who overcame all. We are victors in life for we are slaves of His righteousness.
Get the victory today.
Endurance is patience concentrated. - Thomas Carlyle
