For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead. - James 2:26

ree

If you saw a person who was not breathing you would probably think they was dead. James wrote that in the same way a person without the spirit is physically dead, a person who claims faith bt does not act on that faith is spiritually dead.

Acts of faith are proof of a life of faith.

Which begs the question, "What exactly is an act of faith? Is every "good" thing we do an act of faith?

No. Many people do "good" things, but they do not belong to Christ. An act of faith, as James describes it, originates in the heart of one who belongs to Christ and ends in God receiving all the glory, all the credit, for both the act and the outcome.

So, if this definition holds water, "How much of our faith is "living" and how much is "dead?"

Faith has to do with things that are not seen, and hope with things that are not in hand. - Thomas Acquinas
